I read this post and it made me so angry that I had to link up to it and spread the word. That a woman was subjected to this type of harassment in a comedy club as a comeback to poor humor is not only appalling but abusive. I have never been over to Cookies for Breakfast. I don’t know who she is, have never met her and have never read her blog until today. I was lead over there from a post that I read on Facebook via Peter Shankman.
I generally don’t get on a soap box on this blog, because divorce is a soap box all unto itself, but this really pissed me off.
I won’t tell you the entire story, because it isn’t mine to tell, and I think you need to read it in her own words, so follow this link to read it…

But, the upshot is that making jokes about rape, and then gang rape is never funny. In fact, rape is never a joke. How a comedian, such as Daniel Tosh, who I have never heard of, can make jokes regarding rape to begin with is beyond me. How would he feel if his mother were raped, or his sister? Would he be making those jokes on a stage then? And, although he can probably defend himself and say it’s just an “act”, most rapists might say that rape is also just an “act”, an act of violence. And, whether or not his jokes are an act or what he truly feels, they are inappropriate, disgusting and he should be ashamed of himself.
What is worse is the audience who laughed at the idea of this poor woman being gang raped right there on the spot because she decided to stand up for all women. Is that funny? I don’t think so. Does that make you feel safe to know that a crowd can turn that ugly within a millisecond at the urging of one stupid and not very funny man on a stage? What would Tosh have done if some drunk guys in the audience had thought it wasn’t a bad idea and decided to take him up on his idea and actually jumped her right there in the club? Would he have stopped it or cheered them on?
This is what is so scary about the situation. Knowing that he is already making inappropriate jokes, who knows what his reaction would have been. And, instead of offering a refund to these women the comedy club actually offered them free tickets to another show…as if they wanted to sit through that trash again.
Life lesson….Rape is never a joke. EVER.
